Friends of 14' Bank Lighthouse

a picture of the 14' Bank Lighthouse

Picture taken by D. Sundberg, Sept 02 2002. Not to be used elsewhere without permission, copyright pending.

Fourteen Foot Bank Lighthouse was built in 1888 being forty feet in height located in Delaware Bay.

It was America's first Submarine type lighthouse. The original fourth order fresnel lens is kept by the United States Coast Guard including the original window frames/trim.
An authenic cast iron outhouse is still attached to the lighthouse which makes the Fourteen Foot Bank Light very unique. The house structure itself is also made of cast iron panels.

The lighthouse is no longer supplied by electrical power, as of 1998 solar power has been used. The electric horn is also powered by solar photovoltaic panels and is in service from March 15 to December 15 currently. The interior was painted by the United State Coast Guard Aids to Navigation in 1997. The interior woodwork, stairway and banster detailing is well preserved, handrail varnishing is still intact.

The Fourteen Foot Bank Light is closed to the public. The Fourteen Foot Bank Light obtained it's name from being constructed on a bank/shoal.
